Overview:  

 

  • Responsible for managing the underwriting and credit approval processes for new Lines of Credit applications and renewals of current Line of Credit clients.  This position will work closely with underwriting analysts, credit, and sales associates to assist in conducting due diligence, underwriting asset-based commercial lines of credit, performing robust collateral analysis, conducting financial statement and cash flow reviews and performing portfolio administration duties.  This individual will attend client prospect meetings, manage the due diligence process, gather information and perform research in order to identify, quantify and mitigate underwriting risk inherent in an asset based- commercial lending function.

  • Lead a team of financial analysts to underwrite and analyze asset-based commercial lines of credit 

  • Consult with indirect lenders and car dealerships to understand their specific needs and objectives and construct a credit facility that meets both client and company needs

  • Provides an independent, in-depth analysis of finance receivable portfolios, financial statements, projections and business plans; identifies and mitigates key risks

  • Interacts with Risk department to understand propriety finance receivable valuation model

  • Expands client relationships by applying knowledge of credit policy, pricing and structure to develop solutions that meet the client’s needs and the company’s risk acceptance criteria

  • Participates in post-closing inspection as part of a continuous monitoring credit risk management framework and develops action plans for deteriorating credits

  • Develop and refine timely underwriting processes to meet origination goals

  • Develop and refine timely underwriting processes that meet portfolio loss goals

  • Train analysts and others on appropriate credit processes

  • Change/create underwriting standards to that meet company risk objectives

  • Understand and interpret risk models that estimate collateral performance

  • Conduct collateral analysis for automobile finance receivable portfolios

  • Interact with clients and executive team in a professional manner

  • Lead discussions in Credit Committee meetings and work closely with Credit Officer

  • Cooperatively work with members of both the Sales and Credit teams on new Line of Credit opportunities

  • Manage client related communications with prospective or current clients

  • Travel to clients for in-person meetings when needed

  • Lead and direct diligence trips to visit potential clients

  • Participate in strategic meetings for Spartan products

  • Additional tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 5+ years of experience in one of the following:  asset-based lending, commercial credit underwriting, financial analysis or consumer finance.  

  • 3+ years of experience in financial statement analysis with a strong understanding of cash flow and debt service analysis 

  • Ability to create and document new processes and maintain schedules

  • Ability to enforce company policies 

  • Ability to train and develop credit analysts

  • Knowledge and/or relationships in the auto finance industry are preferred but not required

  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Exceptional team building and training skills

  • Be able to maintain composure and multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Be able to function under the pressure of deadlines and budgets
